I can’t control my desire to eat, I always prone to eat until my stomach hurts. I can’t stop indulging myself of tasting food and chewing, it seems like nothing will ever enough. What should I do?

Question:
Deepak's Response:
You need to recognize that your desire to eat is disconnected from your body’s intelligence and it’s messages of when you need to eat, what you need to eat and how much you need to eat. Presently your desire to eat has become an unconscious impulse to placate your anxiety. That is why no amount of food is satisfying because you are trying to satisfy an emotional need with physical food. To separate these two confused impulses, you need to become fully present and aware when you eat. Get back in touch with your body’s inner intelligence. Listen to your body’s actual hunger. Ask what your body wants to eat, not your mind or your feelings. What would make it feel better? As you eat, pay attention to the aroma, the texture, and the flavors of the food. Be conscious that eating this food is to provide nourishment and even healing for your body, and be aware that eating is not supposed to address your emotional needs. Make a clear distinction. As you relearn to listen to your body during eating, it will tell you when you are no longer hungry. That is the time to stop eating. Not when your stomach is full, but when your body is satisfied and no longer hungry.

Deepak
