Nathan Daley, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Nathan Daley is a leading visionary in preventive health care, mind-body medicine, and environmental health. As Director of Medical Programs at the Leonardi Institute in Lakewood, Colorado, he has an integrative healing approach that he describes as combining “the best of all things that work,” including the most cutting-edge medical innovations and the most ancient healing traditions.
In his pursuit to understand the true meaning of health, Dr. Daley has acquired an impressive background in emerging areas of medicine. After receiving an undergraduate degree in microbiology and his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma, he completed a clinical internship and diagnostic radiology training at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He then completed a residency in preventive medicine at U.C. San Diego and a Masters of Public Health (focusing on environmental health) at San Diego State University. In addition, he was selected by the Bravewell Collaborative in 2008 as an integrative medicine fellow. This honor provided him the opportunity to receive training at the University of Arizona’s renowned Program in Integrative Medicine. His training at the University of Arizona, and additional work at the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in La Jolla, California, has given Dr. Daley the privilege of learning from several pioneers in the field, including Drs. Andrew Weil, Tierona Low Dog, Victoria Maizes, and Mimi Guarneri.
He is currently writing two books − one on the definition and origin of human health and another on the science and ecology of peak athletic performance. He also recently co-authored a book (in press) detailing a natural approach to treating and preventing Alzheimer’s disease.
Valencia Porter, M.D.
Patients and guests who visit the Chopra Center have the opportunity to receive a mind-body medical consultation with holistic health expert Valencia Porter, M.D., M.P.H. Board-certified in both General Preventive Medicine and Integrative Holistic Medicine, Dr. Porter has an integrative approach that incorporates many areas of health and healing, including ayurveda, biofield (energy) therapies, and functional medicine.
As a medical student at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, she began to explore complementary and alternative medicine. After training in Pediatrics and Child Neurology, she completed a residency in Preventive Medicine at U.C. San Diego – as well as a master’s degree in public health focusing on Environmental Health at San Diego State University.
Before coming to the Chopra Center, Dr. Porter served as a physician and researcher at the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in San Diego, where she provided integrative care to children and adults coping with ADD/ADHD, stress and anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and weight management. Dr. Porter completed a fellowship as a Bravewell Collaborative scholar at the renowned Program for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona. In addition to serving as the Chopra Center's Medical Director, she is a volunteer faculty member of U.C. San Diego's department of family and preventive medicine.
Dr. Porter has a caring, individualized approach that encompasses all aspects of her patients’ lives. During your consultation, she will work with you to explore the mind-body connection behind your current symptoms and develop practical behaviors that will set you on a course of wellness..
Dr. David Frawley "Vamadeva Shastri"
Dr. David Frawley (Pandit Vamadeva Shastri) is a recognized Vedacharya or teacher of the Vedic knowledge in India. He is the author of more than twenty books published worldwide over the past thirty years. His work addresses Ayurvedic medicine, Yoga psychology and Vedic astrology, along with their interrelationships and practical applications as tools of both personal and collective transformation.
Vamadeva is currently the director of the American Institute of Vedic Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which offers various courses, training programs and retreats. His relevant titles for the upcoming training include Yoga and Ayurveda, Ayurveda and the Mind, Yoga, Inner Tantric Yoga and Ayurvedic Astrology. His approach to Ayurvedic psychology includes the use of sensory therapies, pranayama, mantra and meditation.
Dr. Daniel Vicario
Dr. Vicario grew up in Argentina, where he attended the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine. After graduating with honors in 1983, he returned to his native California and trained as Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Pharmacology at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Vicario completed his Residency and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, followed by a three-year fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of California, San Diego. He was then appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine, where he focused on clinical research, as well as ways to improve the quality of life for patients with cancer.
In 1994 Dr. Vicario went into private practice at the San Diego Cancer Center in North County, where he is a senior partner, Medical Director and Director of the Integrative Medicine Program. He has also continued his work at UCSD as a voluntary professor of medicine, teaching medical students, residents, and other physicians.
Dr. Vicario is co-founder and president of the San Diego Cancer Research Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the care and quality of life of cancer patients. He has served the San Diego community in a wide variety of non-profit health care related functions and has been recipient of several honors and awards .
Dr. Vicario has also spent the last 30 years studying and training in various integrative mind-body healing traditions, including ayurveda. He and his wife have been married for 25 years, and they enjoy spending time with their four children and traveling.
