Every year thousands of people from around the world travel to the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California, to attend the Perfect Health program developed by co-founders Deepak Chopra, M.D. and David Simon, M.D. Some have been diagnosed with illnesses such as cancer, chronic pain, or heart disease. Others are coping with depression, job burnout, relationship stress, and emotional turbulence.
Everyone who comes to the Perfect Health program does so because they want to take a holistic approach that combines the Eastern healing arts with the best in modern Western medicine. The Chopra Center’s medical staff are board-certified M.D.’s as well as experts in various traditional healing systems, including ayurveda.
An Individual Healing Experience The Chopra Center’s program consultants regularly receive many questions about the Perfect Health program from people who want to understand what the experience is like, what they can expect, and how they can benefit. In many ways, describing the Perfect Health program is challenging because each participant is unique and the experience is tailored to an individual's needs, energy levels, and intentions. However, to help you envision the experience of a Perfect Health week, we share here the framework and highlights of the program.
Your Perfect Health experience begins Monday morning with a group welcome and orientation, followed by instruction in Primordial Sound Meditation. After an in-depth introduction to this timeless healing practice, you will receive your personal mantra in a special session with a master instructor. You will also enjoy your first ayurvedic massage treatment and panchakarma cleansing therapy.
The Mind-body Medical Consultation In the week that follows, each day begins early each morning with a Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga class, followed by a group meditation held in the serenity of our meditation room, which has absorbed the peaceful vibrations of thousands of meditators for many years. Guests receive an individual schedule for their daily ayurvedic massage treatments – as well as for the one-on-one mind-body consultation with a member of the medical staff. This consultation can last up to one hour. You will also have a follow-up consultation with a Perfect Health instructor who can help you translate the doctor’s recommendations into practical, real-world behaviors.
Daily Classes in Ayurveda, Yoga, and Meditation All of our classes take place in the Center’s beautiful Dharma room, where you can make yourself comfortable in a seat, backjack, or on the floor with an abundant supply of soft blankets. Fresh fruit, light snacks, and tea are available in the Dharma room throughout the day. A Beautiful Flow of Healing, Learning, and Rejuvenation Your first Perfect Health class of the day begins at 9am and ends around 10:30am. For the rest of the morning, guests experience mind-body consultations, massage therapies, and free time to relax, walk, journal, and visit beautiful beaches located just a few minutes from the Chopra Center. Your lunch break starts around noon and runs to 2pm.
Throughout the afternoon, rice and a traditional lentil stew known as dahl will be available. Dahl is a delicious light meal that aids the detoxification process. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we typically offer a complete ayurvedic lunch. At 3pm our afternoon class begins and runs until 5pm. Guests end each day with a group meditation and a Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga class that concludes at approximately 7:30pm. You are then free to dine off-site, in your room, or at one of the restaurants at La Costa Resort & Spa. Some evenings you will be given an exercise to complete before going to sleep.
On the final day of Perfect Health, there is a special closing event with activities to help you integrate your experience as you return home feeling renewed and ready to use the healing tools you have learned in your daily life.
