Gratitude is a state of being in which we feel connected to everything in the universe. It is a fullness of the heart that recognizes the blessings of Nature within and without . . . an experience of wholeness and our “cup runneth over.” Gratitude could also be described as love for the goodness of life itself.
Practicing gratitude is one of the most effective ways of getting in touch with your soul because when you feel grateful, your ego gets out of the way and you experience your true Self. You let go of fear and limiting beliefs and feel connected to the divine flow of the universe.
You can experience a state of gratitude right now with this simple exercise:
Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and bring your energy to your heart. Now think of everything you could be grateful for . . . all the people who care about you, the love you share, and the gifts of life. Sit there quietly and come up with as many things you can think of to be grateful for. Experience the warmth, the love, the compassion, the understanding, the creativity and the sense of connection that gratitude brings into your heart. Breathe in that thankfulness, then say to yourself, “Every decision I make is a choice between a grievance and a miracle. I let go of grievances and choose miracles.”
After a few minutes, slowly come back to the present and open your eyes.
By nurturing an attitude of simple gratitude, you detach from the ego’s fear-based perspective and open yourself to the abundant flow of the universe. As you cultivate gratitude, meditate, read, journal, and spend time in nature, you will come into harmony with the universal field of intelligence that orchestrates the fulfillment of all your dreams and desires.
