Become a Teacher

Vedic Master:  Caroline van Hulst-Huisman

This month's featured teacher is Caroline van Hulst-Huisman, a Vedic Master certified in all three areas of the Chopra Center’s Teachers Path: meditation, yoga, and Perfect Health. A native of the Netherlands, Caroline lives in Vollenhove and is the founder of the Studio Animo health and fitness center.

How many Chopra Center events have you attended?
The first event I attended was SynchroDestiny, at California’s beautiful Lake Tahoe in May 2007. It was during that event that I discovered an inner desire and commitment to become a certified teacher of Primordial Sound Meditation, yoga, and Perfect Health. The universe worked out the details for me and I took a one-year study sabbatical, completing my Vedic Master certificate in 2008. During this time, I also participated in six different programs with the Chopra Center team. Each program had its own specific and inspiring qualities. I also found every program very well-organized, fulfilling, and full of the Chopra Center spirit!

What was your favorite event?
The SynchroDestiny seminar at Lake Tahoe – it was my favorite because it was my first experience with the Chopra Center and because the seminar is based on The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire, the book by Deepak that inspired me to let go of my fixed patterns of thinking, step into the unknown, and let the magic of life unfold for me!

What inspires you to teach?
My inspiration to teach comes from within me, from an inner voice encouraging me to be the change I would like to see in this world. But I would also like to give credit to my father, who died a few years ago and was really an inspiration to me. He was the director and the driving force behind our family business, Royal Huisman, and in my opinion he was one of the best leaders you could hope for. His motto was: “Always keep the wooden shoes on the floor,” by which he meant that true leaders remember that they aren’t better or “worthier” than anyone else in the organization – they treat everyone well and as an equal.

What is the best trip you have ever taken?
My honeymoon in Hawaii with my husband, Erik. We booked an island hopper tour and it felt like traveling in paradise. The beauty of the islands (especially Kauai), the climate, the friendly people, and being newly married to the man I love made it a fantastic trip that I will never forget!
