The guiding principle of Ayurveda is the interconnection of all things – the mind and the body, the spiritual and the physical, the inner world and the outer environment. From this holistic perspective, the body isn’t a sloshing bag of biochemicals; it’s a field of quantum mechanical intelligence that is constantly responding to our thoughts, emotions, and intentions.
Consider the example of multiple personality disorder. People suffering from this severe psychiatric illness aren’t affected only at the psychological level. When they shift from one personality to another, dramatic changes can occur in their bodies. For example, one personality might have high blood pressure, while another personality within the same person may not. One personality may have diabetes, while the other personalities test normal for insulin levels.
In the medical research of multiple personalities, there are cases of patients whose eyes transformed from blue to brown as they dropped one personality and put on another. In another case, a woman had three separate menstrual periods every month corresponding to each of her three different personalities.
All of these examples are perfect illustrations of how signals from the quantum mechanical body trigger instantaneous changes in the physical body. The transformation takes place at the deepest level of intelligence, below our conscious awareness. Ayurveda at the Chopra Center Thousands of years before modern medicine provided scientific evidence for the mind-body connection, the sages of India developed Ayurveda, which continues to be one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body healing systems. Ayurveda offers timeless tools and techniques to enliven the body’s innate healing intelligence, including meditation, knowledge of one’s unique mind-body type or dosha, sound healing, yoga, the inner pharmacy, aromatherapy, massage therapy, and the cleansing and purifying treatment known as Panchakarma.
Deepak Chopra and David Simon developed the six-day Perfect Health program as an Ayurvedic immersion where people have come for more than a decade to heal their body and mind while learning the foundational practices for health and vitality. In addition to daily Ayurvedic massage treatments and instruction in yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, Perfect Health guests receive a mind-body medical consultation with a member of the Chopra Center’s medical staff.
The Chopra Center is pleased to announce that in 2009 we are offering three new specialized Perfect Health programs: Perfect Weight, Moving Beyond Chronic Pain, and Perfect Health-Emotional Healing.
